- ACL - Access Control List
- API - Application Programming Interface. A software interface for developers
- CIDR - Classless Inter-Domain Routing. Specifies aggregated IP addresses as a subnet and a routing prefix
- DBA - Database Administrator
- Dispatcher - a NAF component
- DNS - Domain Name System
- DR - Delivery Report.
Depending on usage, this can specifically mean a positive DR, or it can generically cover all DRs, including NDRs
- DSN - Delivery Status Notification (alternative term for a DR)
- ESMTP - Extended SMTP
- IMAP - Internet Message Access Protocol (an MS-access protocol)
- J2SE - Java 2 Standard Edition, another term for the standard Java JDK download
- JAR - Java Archive, this is the type and file extension of the binary code files that represent a Java application
- JDBC - Java Database Connectivity, Java's database API
- JDK - Java Development Kit. A Java bundle which includes a JRE and development tools
- JRE - Java Runtime Environment. Basic environment for running JVMs
- JVM - Java Virtual Machine
- Mailismus - this mail-server suite
- MIME - Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (standards for multi-media mail formats)
- MQC - Mail Queue Cluster. The file-type of the Mailismus Queue's control-info storage files (see §4)
- MS - Message Store (mailboxes)
- MSA - Message Submission Agent (an outbound MTA configured specifically for local clients)
- MTA - Message Transfer Agent (technical term for the message-switching core of a mail server)
- MUA - Message User Agent.
This is the email client application, in which you send, receive, read and compose emails, eg. Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, Pine
- NAF - Network Application Framework (see Guide)
- NAFlet - NAF Applet
- NAFMAN - NAF Manager
- NDR - Non-Delivery Report (notifies original senders of bounced messages)
- OS - Operating System (eg. Linux, MS-Windows, MacOS/OS-X)
- POP - Post Office Protocol (an MS-access protocol)
- POP3 - POP version 3 (the only extant version)
- QID - Queue ID. In combination with the SPID, this identifies an individual recipient on the Mailismus Queue and QIDs are unique relative to that message's SPID
- RFC - Request For Comment (an official Internet document or standard)
- SASL - Simple Authentication and Security Layer (a family of authentication mechanisms)
- SMTP - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (specifies the dialogue between MTAs - RFC 821 and successors)
- SPF - Sender Protection Framework
- SPID - Spool ID. Uniquely identifies the message contents of each message on the Mailismus Queue, and is associated with one or more QIDs
- VM - Virtual Machine (usually refers to the Java VM - see JVM)
